Flooring quoting
Flooring quoting software that prices the way you do
Every flooring contractor quotes a little differently. Squaro takes the quantities from the builder's plans and prices them with your waste, your pack sizes, your trim method and your rates, then hands you a quote to check line by line before it goes to the builder.
A quote is your rules applied to a plan
The quantities in a flooring quote come from the plan. Everything else comes from the business: how much waste you allow, whether you add a spare pack, how far the floor runs under cabinets, how you price trims and stairs, what you always add for preparation and travel, and what you charge per square metre. Two contractors given the same plan will send two different quotes, and both can be right.
Squaro is built around that. The takeoff is read from the plan, and the pricing is done with your rules. Set them once and every quote follows them.
Your rules, set once
Hard floors
- Supply and install rate per square metre.
- Pack size, waste percentage, and whether to add a spare pack.
- Doorway allowance: how deep the floor runs into each doorway and full-length window.
- Under-cabinet allowance: how far the floor runs under cabinets to the kickboard.
- Robes floored to the sliding door line, or to the back wall.
Stairs
- The extra product allowed on stairs before the normal waste.
- Steps and nosing priced per metre of step width.
- Extra nosing and labour for each open-sided box step, and a price for single steps.
Trims
- Per metre, with each opening rounded up to a whole metre and then summed, or a fixed price per trim.
- Robe doors trimmed either side, or not, for jobs where the floor goes down before the robe tracks.
Carpet, blinds and preparation
- Carpet roll width, rate, naplocks, staircases and scrape up. See carpet quoting.
- Blinds markup on supplier cost, install per blind and a check measure fee. See blinds quoting.
- Pulling up floating floors or carpet, preparation over tiles, a markup on the preparation crew's cost, high rise and travel allowances.
Tax, rounding and standing extras
- GST, VAT or sales tax at your rate, with rates entered inclusive or exclusive of tax. Tax is worked on the quote total, not line by line.
- Each line rounded up to a whole dollar, or not.
- Standing extras added to every quote, as an amount or a percentage, and switchable off for a single job.
New companies start from sensible defaults for their country, and you replace them with your own figures when you set up. During early access, we set up your rules with you.
Packs, not just square metres
Squaro prices what you will actually buy. The floor total, with stair product and its allowance, gets your waste percentage, is rounded up to whole packs, and is then priced at your rate. Carpet is priced on the lineal metres cut from the roll, not the net area of the rooms. The quote line shows each step: room area, allowances, area with waste, packs and area bought. The waste percentage guide walks through that order with an example.
Checking, built in
A quote is your price and your name, so nothing goes out unchecked. On every line Squaro shows the rooms behind it, the sheet each figure was read from and the rule that was applied. The estimator ticks each line. Squaro records who ticked it and the amount they approved, and if the amount changes afterwards, the tick goes stale so the line is checked again.
Change an area, a rate or a rule on a draft and the quote recalculates straight away. Two people editing the same quote cannot silently overwrite each other: if the quote changed since you opened it, Squaro tells you before saving.
Sent quotes do not change
When a quote is marked as sent, Squaro keeps a copy of the rules and rates it was written with. If you update your rates next month, quotes already with builders keep their original prices. Move a quote back to draft and it is priced again with your current rules, because it is being requoted.
What the builder receives
Each quote produces a PDF ready to send to the builder, with a line for each trade describing the product, the colour and the rooms it covers, and the total with tax shown the way you set it.
Hard floors, carpet and blinds on one quote
A builder job often includes hybrid through the living areas, carpet to the bedrooms and blinds to the windows. Squaro puts them on one quote, each priced with its own rules, so the builder gets one document and you keep one record.
Built for builder work
Squaro is designed for contractors who quote from builders' working drawings and selections, often several houses a week for the same builders. It came out of a Perth flooring contractor that quotes volume builder homes every week, and its quoting method follows how their estimators price a house. Rules are per company, so the way your business quotes is the way every estimator on your team quotes.
Countries and currencies
Squaro is launching in Australia and sold to contractors in New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, the US and Canada. Each company has its own currency and tax setting: GST in Australia and New Zealand, VAT in the UK and Ireland, and sales tax in the US and Canada, where quotes are usually shown exclusive of tax. Plans dimensioned in metres or millimetres are supported today, with feet and inches on the roadmap.
